Coined during the First Jewish Revolt against Rome in 66-70 BCE, this coin (called a Prutah) was minted in defiance of Rome's tyranny and depicted rebellious Hebraic inscriptions and motifs modeled with symbols of Judean kings. Often called “Masada Coins” after a number of them were discovered at Masada, King Herod’s citadel where the last surviving Jewish rebels made their final stand, these rare coins possess a fascinating story that makes this gorgeous medallion a privilege to look at and an even greater one to own!
